Andrew Berry appeared stunned as he looked out upon a courtroom full of reporters Thursday, his first public court appearance since he was taken into custody for allegedly murdering his two young daughters on Christmas Day.
Berry was seen wearing a bandage on his hand as he shuffled into the courtroom after police escorted him to the Victoria Courthouse on Thursday.
He was ordered to have no contact with Sarah Cotton, the mother of his children, and will remain in custody as the case moves forward.
Berry is charged with two counts of second-degree murder after his daughters, Chloe, six, and Aubrey, four, were found dead in his Oak Bay apartment on Dec. 25.
Berry was then was rushed to hospital with what were described as self-inflicted injuries.
Upon his release from care this week, he was arrested immediately.
The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit is still investigating the double homicide and a victim services unit is available for those affected by the tragedy.
A candlelight vigil was held at Willows Beach over the weekend as hundreds of people mourned the deaths of the two little girls, described as "bright lights" known for their beaming smiles.
Berry will make a video appearance in court on Feb. 1.
