A 39-year-old suspect was driving a stolen car when he crashed into another vehicle last week, Greater Sudbury police said in a news release Aug. 10. The man, who was also on probation, fled the crash scene Aug. 7 but has since been arrested. The collision took place around 11:10 a.m. on The Kingsway. “Initial information indicated that one of the drivers involved had fled the scene on foot prior to police arrival,” Sudbury police said. Surveillance video “Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the individual at that time.” They were able to identify him thanks to surveillance footage, and the police investigation revealed that he was driving a vehicle that had been stolen earlier that morning. “Later that day, officers observed the individual in the downtown core where he was taken into custody without incident,” the release said. “Officers searched the individual incident to arrest and located a quantity of what is believed to be fentanyl.” Charges include drug possession, motor vehicle theft, dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, violating probation, driving without a licence and failing to report an accident. “The individual was held overnight in police custody and attended weekend (bail court) to answer to the charges,” police said.
