Police in northern Ontario say an employer has been charged with hitting a member of the restaurant staff who showed up late for work. The incident took place around 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 7 in the Municipality of Huron Shores, just east of Sault Ste. Marie. “Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report of an employee who had been assaulted by their employer at a food services business,” police said in a news release Aug. 10. “The investigation determined that the employee had arrived late for work and a verbal dispute occurred between the business owner and the employee. During the interaction, the employee was struck on the lower back/waist area by the employer.” Further investigation revealed that a similar incident took place in July, police added. A 44-year-old from Huron Shores was charged with two counts of assault. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Oct. 14.
