The Ontario Hockey League’s Sudbury Wolves pulled off a huge 15-draft pick trade for 16-year-old, 6’1 forward Tanner Adams of South Porcupine, the team said in a release Friday. Making his intentions clear prior to the priority selection draft in the spring, Adams said at the time he only wanted to play in Sudbury but was drafted third overall by the Brampton Steelheads. Adams was also a no-show at the league draft. Refusing to join the team, Adams had intended to play for the NOJHL’s Timmins Rock before the blockbuster deal was announced by the Wolves as they played their final exhibition game against the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, losing 3-0. Adams is coming off an 88-point season while playing for the Hill Academy AAA team last season where he scored 34 goals and while adding 54 assists. “He is a tremendous leader, an elite person, a power forward and a player who truly wants to be a Sudbury Wolf, ” said Wolves General manager Rob Papineau. “His passion for this opportunity and his desire to be part of what we are building in Sudbury really stood out to us.” The trade leaves the Wolves short with only a few picks in each of the next two OHL drafts after relinquishing four picks in the 27 and 28 drafts to Brampton. Adams will be in the lineup Friday night when the Wolves open their 26-27 OHL season on home ice against the Peterborough Petes.
