OPP say a 38-year-old Mattawa man failed to stop for a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere program in the town last Friday. North Bay OPP said officers were conducting a RIDE program on Second Street when an ATV approached the checkpoint and failed to stop after being directed, police said a news release July 29. “Officers located the ATV and driver a short time later at a property in Mattawa, where the driver was uncooperative and resisted arrest,” police said. The driver of the ATV was later found and charged. Police said at the time of the incident, there was an increase in pedestrian and vehicle traffic related to a local festival, creating additional public safety concerns. The man now faces several charges including dangerous operation, driving under suspension and driving without insurance. The ATV was also seized by police. The accused is set to appear in a North Bay court Aug 26. .
