The arrest of a man described by police as armed and dangerous was caught on camera in Bedford, N.S., Saturday afternoon. An emergency alert that said the man was on foot behind Sunnyside Mall was issued in the area around 11:30 a.m. Residents were told to find a safe location, lock their doors and to not approach the suspect. About 20 minutes later, Halifax Regional Police said officers were tracking the 31-year-old man. Police said the man was involved in a shooting in Annapolis Royal, a small community about 200 kilometres northwest of Halifax, earlier that morning. The man’s vehicle was also reportedly found in the parking lot behind Sunnyside Mall. The alert was then expanded to include the Halifax Regional Municipality at 12:15 p.m. It was cancelled just before 1 p.m. when the suspect was arrested. CTV News Atlantic camera operator Valentine Nkengbeza filmed the moment while interviewing a witness at the scene. “All of a sudden, we see the cops coming, I turn around, I hear a big crash, I hear the car swerve into the parking lot here, Sunnyside parking lot, and it runs off, it comes up, it runs off into the woods here. So the cops didn’t see him come up here, we were the only ones who saw him come up here, so the cops drove by Sunnyside Mall and we ran onto the road and flagged them down,” Ben Stewart said before being interrupted. “There he is! Oh my God, they got him,” bystanders said while noticing the arrest happening behind Stewart. “We got ‘em boys.” At 2:30 p.m., police clarified in a news release the earlier shooting was reported in South Farmington, N.S. No other details have been released at this time. The RCMP says it will release more information on Monday.
