Victoria police say the public is not at risk after a man was found dead near Hillside Shopping Centre early Saturday.
A home on Hillside Avenue was behind police tape Sunday as investigators continued scouring the area for evidence.
Police have not confirmed the man’s identity, but friends say the victim was 35-year-old Joe Gauthier.
Two GoFundMe pages have been started online to raise money for funeral expenses for Gauthier, a father of four.
Police have not said what the cause of death was and whether any arrests have been made.
The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit told CTV News police responded to a disturbance call in the 1400-block of Hillside Avenue.
The B.C. Coroner’s Service confirmed it’s in the early stages of an investigation into a man’s death.
Anyone who was in the Hillside area between 4:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. on Saturday is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
