The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit and the B.C. Coroner’s Service are investigating after a man was found dead in Victoria on Saturday.
A spokesperson with the major crimes unit says Victoria Police responded to a disturbance call in the 1400-block of Hillside Avenue.
The coroner tells CTV News they are in the early stages of an investigation into a man’s death.
Victoria police swarmed a neighbourhood near a busy shopping centre on Saturday morning for what they called a “serious incident.”
Hillside Avenue was shut down from Belmont Avenue to Gosworth Road for several hours as police and forensic officers in white suits combed the area.
A person claiming to be a witness told CFAX 1070 they saw officers giving CPR to a victim lying on the ground at 5:20 a.m.
Anyone who may have been in the area between 4:30 and 5:30 a.m. is asked to call the VIIMCU information line at 250-380-6211 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
We currently are in the 1400-block of Hillside Ave for a serious incident. There will be traffic disruptions for the rest of the day #yyj
