It’s literally the dog days of summer in Okotoks, and not just because of their division-leading WCBL baseball team. The Alberta Kennel Club’s 2026 Summer Classic is being held at the Ranch House Grounds near the Calgary Polo Club this weekend. More than 800 dogs are entered each day in 29 different breed specialities. The Kennel Club has been holding the summer showcase for more than 50 years and it’s unlike any other competition of its kind in the country. “(It’s) the largest outdoor dog show in Canada,” said Alberta Kennel Club president Angie Saunder, “and that goes by our numbers and stuff -- so yeah, we’re pretty proud of that. There’s a lot of work that goes into these events.” Dogs will be competing in agility, obedience, rally obedience and all-breed conformation -- and more than two dozen vendors will be offering unique products.
