A Netflix show centred around figure skating with filming locations in Simcoe County is expanding its cast for season 2. Finding Her Edge, a coming-of-age show, is welcoming five new actors to the show, including Canadian Olympic medal-winning figure skater Elvis Stojko, who’ll become a series regular. He’ll be playing the character, Kevin, the owner of the rival skating group, Voltage Academy. Canadian singer-songwriter Johnny Orlando, who’s been nominated with JUNOS and EMAs, will play a charismatic local named Jesse. Joining them will be Nikita J Olechko as Andrej – Voltage Academy’s star singles skater, Niamh Blackshaw as Freya – a rival dancer, and Matthew Finlan – Freya’s partner. “It’s a true privilege to hit the ice for a second season with this incredible cast, and to further the stories of our inspirational characters in a juicy, soapy sophomore season of Finding Her Edge,” said series showrunner, executive producer and writer Jeff Norton. The show is currently filming in Southern Ontario, including around our region, now through December. Some of the filming locations for season 1 were in Orillia on Mississauga Street East between Peter Street South and Matchedash Street South, at the Orillia Public Library and the Orillia Museum of Art and History in February 2025. The series also filmed in Barrie at Georgian College, Eastview Arena and on Shannon Street off of St. Vincent Street in March 2025. And finally in April 2025, the show used the Wasaga Stars Arena in Wasaga Beach as a set as well. Season 1 debuted in January at number four in the Netflix Global Top 10 and reached Top 10 in 81 countries. Based on the Young Adult novel by Jennifer Iacopelli about the world of competitive figure skating, sales of the book increased. Spotify says the audiobook had a 990 per cent increase in global listens and a 1,300 per cent increase in global searches on the streaming platform, after the season premiered.
