A woman is facing impaired driving charges after she allegedly drove dangerously through two counties in Nova Scotia and crashed her vehicle while a child was inside. The RCMP started receiving calls about a possible impaired driver in the Londonderry area shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday. “Officers learned that a white Honda CRV was weaving through traffic and passing vehicles unsafely,” said police in a news release Wednesday. An officer found the vehicle on Highway 104 near Londonderry and tried to pull it over, but police say the driver continued eastbound on the highway. Colchester County District RCMP shared the vehicle information with Pictou County District RCMP. Police in Pictou County found the vehicle, but the RCMP says the driver again refused to stop and evaded tire-deflation devices deployed by the officers. Around 3:30 p.m., police received an automated 911 crash notification from a cellphone. Colchester RCMP and other first responders responded to Jollytown Road, near Upper Brookside Road, in East Mountain and found the Honda CRV in the ditch. “A child who was in the vehicle at the time of the crash was transported to hospital by EHS and is believed to have non-life-threatening injuries,” said police. Officers suspected the driver was impaired, so they administered a roadside sobriety test. Police say the woman failed the screening and tested positive for cannabis/THC. The 28-year-old woman from Onslow Mountain was arrested and is facing seven offences, including operating a vehicle while impaired, two counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle, and two counts of flight from a peace officer. “To protect the privacy of the child involved, the woman’s name is not being released,” said the RCMP. The woman appeared in Truro provincial court on Wednesday. Part of Jollytown Road was closed for several hours Tuesday. It has since reopened.
