A head-on collision on the Malahat Highway Thursday morning put two people in hospital, including a woman who is now fighting for her life.
Police believe a southbound pickup truck lost control near the Split Rock view point and travelled into an oncoming traffic lane, smashing head-on into another pickup.
The sole occupants of both vehicles were taken to hospital, one man with non-life threatening injuries and a woman with life-threatening injuries.
The highway was shut down in both directions and expected to remain that way for several hours following the crash, according to police.
The cause of the crash has not been determined.
