An algae bloom has triggered an unusual colour in the Sooke basin, but it’s no cause for concern.
The district of Sooke says the blue-green water is all natural and not necessarily “an indicator of water quality concerns.”
A few residents in the area were worried that something in the water could be harming the ecosystem.
One viewer told CTV News she’s been living in the area for 15 years and has never seen anything like it.
The release put out by the district reads, “There is often no single trigger for these blooms and they are far from predictable.”
It also says the blooms could be caused by a combination of light, food and temperature for that particular species of algae.
“The theory is that the recent events have moved nutrients into our waters, which have warmed up during the last few sunny days,” the release said.
