A trailer burned to the ground and a second one was badly damaged after a fire broke out at a Nanaimo camp site on Saturday.

The owner of Mountainaire Campground and RV Park said they were wrapping up Halloween festivities when they noticed the flames around 10 p.m.

“There was a large fifth wheel trailer that was fully involved in flames and the trees above it as well. We had flames probably I would say 70 or 80 feet up in the air,” Val Brochner told CTV News.

She added that everyone who was around rushed to grab fire extinguishers and hoses to put out the flames.

“The fast response from the fire department, we were able to save that trailer next door and keep the fire from spreading beyond just the trees that were immediately surrounding the RV unit,” Brochner said.

A few guests on site happened to be volunteer firefighters.

No one was injured in the fire.

CTV News has reached out to the responding fire department for more information on what sparked the flames.
