More than 110,000 litres of an oil-water mixture have been recovered from a submerged tug near the Great Bear Rainforest, but the vessel was loaded with more than twice that when it ran aground nearly two weeks ago.
A joint report issued by the American tug owner and federal, provincial and First Nations representatives says all the tanks aboard the Nathan E. Stewart have been pumped out.
The tug was carrying almost 227,000 litres of diesel fuel when it ran aground just west of Bella Bella and about 25,000 litres was removed before the vessel went down.
A report issued on Monday has described oiled shorelines along sections of Seaforth Channel and oil sheen in surrounding waters.
