No one was injured after a fire tore through a house in Saanich on Sunday, causing $300,000 in damage.
More than a dozen firefighters responded to the 200-block of Homer Road at 10:30 a.m.
Fire officials say upon arrival smoke was showing from the roof vents of the two-level residence.
Firefighters quickly determined the blaze originated in the basement of the house.
No one was home at the time of the fire.
According to the Saanich Fire Department, smoke damage to the home was extensive.
Saanich police, BC Hydro and BC Ambulance Service also attended the scene to provide assistance.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
