Police say a man found dead in a Saanich park Wednesday afternoon did not meet with foul play.
Officers were called to Gorge Park near Tillicum Road and Gorge Road West around 11 a.m. for a report of a non-responsive man.
They located the man, believed to be between 60-70 years old, in a heavily wooded area of the park and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators quickly determined the man was not the victim of foul play, and the BC Coroners Service was called to Gorge Park to assume the investigation.
"I understand from talking to the officers that were up in the park that it was very messy in there," said Saanich Police spokesman Sgt. John Price. "There's discarded clothing and a number of other items including human feces as well."
Price said it's unclear whether the man had been camping in the park and there's no indication of how long he might have been there.
Investigators believe the man, who hasn't been identified, died of natural causes.
A large part of Gorge Park was taped off for two hours Wednesday morning as the incident drew a heavy police response.
At least six police cruisers could be spotted at the park, near Tillicum Road and Gorge Road West, around 11 a.m.
That part of the park has since reopened.
