A Campbell River home occupied by a family of eight is likely a total write-off after a massive fire broke out Friday afternoon.
Four fire crews and two engines responded to the blaze at a home on Vallejo Road just after 2 p.m.
Firefighters arriving on scene saw flames shooting from the rear of the home and commenced an interior and exterior attack.
The fire began to consume the kitchen and spread to the upper floor as well as other parts of the ground floor, according to Campbell River Fire Chief Ian Baikie.
The home was older and had been renovated and Baikie said tackling the blaze was “interesting” because floor plans were not standard.
No one was injured in the fire, but two adults and six children living there will be without a home for the time being.
Fortunately, Baikie said the home was insured and the insurer will be putting up the family.
Two cats also made it out okay, he said.
