Around 45 people will have moved from tent city into the former care centre on Johnson Street by end of day Thursday.
The re-purposed Central Care Home will offer 147 housing units once construction is complete.
Two of its five floors are currently being renovated, but are expected to be done by Monday – the court ordered deadline for everyone from tent city to be off the courthouse lawn.
The Portland Hotel Society, a non-profit group handling the move, said it’s also giving people moving into the new facility a cash bonus of $100 for helping clean up tent city.
Andy Bond with the group said the facility will also get a new name once the transition is complete.
