The capital region’s new casino won’t be opening at Crystal Garden.
Victoria’s mayor said the B.C. Lottery Corporation confirmed the historic building is no longer in the running.
According to Lisa Helps, residents of the Humboldt Valley don’t want a casino in their neighbourhood.
“They didn’t think it was an appropriate site for the casino - it’s a neighbourhood, it’s too close, it would be loud, it would be late,” Helps told CTV News.
It will be up to the private sector to come forward with proposals.
“We have no more sites to cough up,” Helps said. “We’ll see what the private sector comes up with.”
The BCLC is expected to select an operator for the casino by the end of the year.
The operator will then select a site.
