A black bear cleverly used a tree to relieve an itch on its backside in incredible footage captured on a trail camera in Sooke Monday.
Ben Kendrick set up the camera in a wooded area near Otter Point, hoping to catch a glimpse of bears he knew were in the area.
When he checked the footage, he was amazed.
“I just purchased the camera a week ago and was hoping for anything,” he said. “It’s only been deer on camera until this morning.”
In the video, the bear is seen rubbing its behind on a moss-covered tree for about 20 seconds.
In another video taken a few minutes later, it’s seen running back to the same tree, standing on its hind legs and peeking out as a car is heard passing through the area.
The itchy animal is then seen a few minutes later scratching its neck – without the help of the tree.
