The mayor of Colwood and chief of the Songhees First Nation will sign an agreement on Monday regarding the future management of the Royal Roads Lands.
The property is part of the traditional territory of the Lekwungen and lies within Colwood’s municipal boundary, but is owned by the Canadian Department of National Defence.
DND recently notified local first nations it no longer has an operational need for the property.
Mayor Carol Hamilton and Songhees Chief Ron Sam will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on Monday afternoon.
It will express their shared interest in working together over the property’s future in terms of protecting the environment, heritage and cultural value of the area.
