The BC Coroners Service is investigating after a man’s body was found in the parking lot of a car rental business in downtown Nanaimo.

Police and coroners were called to the Budget Car and Truck Rental on Terminal Avenue just south of Comox Road Monday morning.

A customer discovered the body of an adult male around 8 a.m. and reported it to the RCMP.

Witnesses told CTV News they saw the body lying between two cars in the parking lot.

The lot was cordoned off as officials investigated.

A cause of death or identity of the deceased man has not been confirmed.

Police said the investigation is in the early stages and there was no additional information they could provide, including whether or not they believe the man met with foul play.
