Winnipeg crews responded to a pair of fires across the city on Sunday, including one at a North End apartment building that’s been hit by several previous blazes. The first fire broke out just before 8 a.m. at a house in the 300 block of Morley Avenue. The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to the scene where they found heavy smoke and flames. To extinguish the blaze, firefighters alternated between interior and exterior attacks. The fire was declared under control around 1:10 p.m. No one was hurt and the fire is under investigation. Firefighters then responded to the second, unrelated fire at a vacant apartment building in the 600 block of Flora Avenue around 1:30 p.m. Once at the scene, crews launched an exterior attack as it was unsafe to go inside. The fire was under control just after 3:10 p.m. No one was hurt and damage estimates are currently unavailable. The City of Winnipeg notes that this apartment building was the site of four previous fires that spanned November 2024 to July 2025. The city is also issuing a reminder to call 911 if you see someone trying to go inside or remove boards from a vacant building. If you notice boarded doors or windows that have been breached, but don’t see anyone actively trying to enter a vacant building, you should report the incident to 311.
