Three people are facing charges after Winnipeg police say they found illegal drugs, weapons and cash during a traffic stop in the city’s North End. Police say officers stopped a compact sedan travelling northbound on Powers Street near Flora Avenue around 8:30 a.m. on Friday after officers noticed the vehicle had a smashed windshield. While speaking with the three occupants, officers saw a weapon in plain view, police said. All three were arrested. A search of the vehicle and the occupants turned up a machete and plastic brass knuckles with a functioning Taser, police said. Officers also seized about 73 grams of fentanyl with an estimated street value of $3,725, about nine grams of cocaine valued at $720, and about 13 grams of crack cocaine valued at $1,000. Police also found various quantities of prescription pills, cellphones, scales and packaging materials and $790 in cash. A 41-year-old man is charged with seven offences related to weapons, drug trafficking and proceeds of crime, police said. He was also arrested on two Powerview RCMP warrants for assault and failing to comply with a release order. The driver, a 31-year-old man, and a 33-year-old woman passenger face similar charges. The woman is also charged with possession of a prohibited device. The 41-year-old was detained in custody. The driver and the female passenger were released on undertakings and are scheduled to appear in court at a later date. None of the charges has been tested in court.
