A 40-year-old South Carolina man is facing multiple charges after a crash west of Foam Lake that killed a woman and two children. Saskatchewan RCMP say officers, along with fire crews, EMS and STARS, responded to a collision on a grid road about nine kilometres west of Foam Lake shortly after 12:30 p.m. on Friday. Police say their investigation determined a truck was attempting to pass a semi when it collided with an SUV. A 40-year-old woman, an eight-year-old girl and a five-year-old girl from Foam Lake, who were all occupants of the SUV, were pronounced dead at the scene by EMS. A man who was also in the SUV was taken to hospital by STARS with serious injuries. The truck driver was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Two passengers in the truck were also injured, with one taken to hospital by EMS with non-life-threatening injuries and the other transported by STARS with serious injuries. According to police, the semi was not damaged and its driver was not injured. As a result of the investigation, 40-year-old Kelly Knopf of Sumter, South Carolina, was arrested and charged with three counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and three counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm. He is scheduled to appear in Yorkton Provincial Court on Oct. 5. RCMP say they continue to investigate with assistance from a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist.
