More than 300 homes and businesses in south Barrie experienced a power outage Sunday morning. Alectra says the outage affected around 318 homes and businesses. A spokesperson for the power company tells CTV News the outage was due to animal contact. “It happens in certain areas where trees are close to power lines,” Alectra says. While the spokesperson doesn’t know what animal was involved in this case, squirrels are often the cause of animal-caused power outages. The affected area was from around Harvie Road and Bryne Drive, up to Bayview Drive and Little Avenue, out to Huronia Road and Big Bay Point Road, and down to Park Place. The power was out for approximately two hours, from 8:11 a.m. to around 10:15 a.m.
