The calendar page has flipped, and the unseasonably cool temperatures on Wednesday are no April Fool’s Day joke. Daytime highs across most of Manitoba, particularly in the south, will remain within a handful of degrees below the normal for this time of year. Winnipeg is forecast to reach 1 C on Wednesday, while the normal high for the beginning of April is 6 C. Parts of northern Manitoba should also be a bit warmer by now. The daytime high for Flin Flon on Wednesday is – 1 C, when the seasonal norm for the community is closer to 4 C. Much of the south will remain cloudy on Wednesday, while most northern regions will see a mix of sun and cloud. A few flurries will clip the most northern communities. Kenora will be the bright spot in northwestern Ontario on Wednesday. Sunny skies are expected in the afternoon, while sunshine will give way to increasing cloudiness across the rest of the region. Meanwhile, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) said a significant low pressure system will develop in the US early on Thursday that could bring more snow to southeastern Manitoba. Precipitation could start as rain on Thursday afternoon, then transition to snow that will taper off on Friday morning, according to ECCC. The weather agency forecasts up to 10 cm of snow for southeastern areas near the international border. At this point, it looks like the bulk of any precipitation will remain well south of Winnipeg.
