One man was charged after Winnipeg police say multiple vehicles were seen hitting speeds of up to 200 kilometres per hour Sunday morning. Around 2 a.m., police received reports of a Corvette and other vehicles racing on the Disraeli Freeway. The police helicopter was used to monitor vehicles. Once they got to the Nairn Overpass, many of the vehicles split off in different directions, police say. This is when some were clocked going around 200 km/h, according to police in a news release. Officers eventually tried to stop a Jeep and a Corvette at Lagimodiere Boulevard and Regent Avenue. The Jeep stopped and the driver was ticketed, however, the driver of the Corvette sped away, according to police. Police said the Corvette stopped in the 100 block of Johnson Avenue and that’s when the driver and passenger started to run. With the help of the K9 Unit, the two were found in the 100 block of Poplar Street and arrested. One of the two was taken to hospital after being caught by a police dog. A 20-year-old man has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle and fleeing police. He was released from custody on an appearance notice. None of the charges have been tested in court. Police noted none of the other vehicles involved were identified.
