The Colorado low that brought fresh snow to southern Manitoba is leaving the province on Tuesday. Light snow in Manitoba will end this afternoon, but the risk of freezing rain will take its place. The fresh coating of snow is also deceiving—there is still ice underneath it, in places, that’s making sections of sidewalks slippery in Winnipeg. Snow will end late Wednesday afternoon in northwestern Ontario. Until then, a special weather statement continues for the region, issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). The weather agency said four to eight more centimetres of snow is expected. Meanwhile, much of southwestern Manitoba, including Brandon, should bask in some sunshine on this last day of March. Northern regions will also see a mix of sun and cloud or cloudy skies on Wednesday. Forecast daytime highs across most of Manitoba are consistent on Wednesday—most areas will see temperatures remain just below the freezing mark. Northwestern Ontario can expect the same. Only the most northern regions of Manitoba will be cooler, particularly Churchill, with a chilly late March high of -14 C. That’s five degrees below normal for the community. Ahead of Tuesday night, winds will ease up across the south. That, coupled with precipitation on the ground, could trigger fog overnight and into the Wednesday morning commute.
