Special weather statement in effect for Windsor-Essex

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Windsor-Essex, citing heavy rainfall Sunday.

Showers and thunderstorms are moving towards the region from Michigan, potentially bringing upwards of 50 millimetres of rain.

The weather agency says it is likely that water will pool on roads and low-lying areas. It will continue into the afternoon.

Sunday: Showers heavy at times ending in the early afternoon, then cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of showers, risk of thunderstorms. Local rain amounts 40 to 50 millimetres. High 27 C, humidex 35 C.

Sunday night: Cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of showers, risk of thunderstorms in the early evening. Low 19 C.

Monday: Cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of showers, risk of thunderstorms in the afternoon. High 27 C, humidex 34 C.

Monday night: Cloudy periods, low 19 C.

Tuesday: A mix of sun and cloud. High 29 C.
