A trio of friends and former coworkers from Victoria are B.C.’s latest millionaires.

Mary Grills, Bev Allarie and Trish Little have been named the winners of a $3.6-million prize after their numbers were pulled in the Feb. 27 draw.

For Little, it was the best kind of rude awakening she’d received when Grills called her late Saturday night to share the incredible news.

“I didn’t believe her,” said Little, who has worked with her friends for years at Saanich Peninsula Hospital. “That Lotto/649 commercial on TV about being on cloud nine…that commercial is dead on.”

She said the women have been playing the same numbers for 22 years.

Grills picked the numbers back then, using significant numbers like her kids’ ages and birthdays.

Split three ways, Little, 56, Allarie, 65, and Grills, 63, will each receive $1.2-million.

It’s enough to make life comfortable for the friends, who will use the money to pay off mortgages, help out their kids and speed up retirement, according to Little.

BCLC said the winning ticket was bought at the McKenzie Esso gas station in Victoria.
