B.C.’s police watchdog has cleared police officers of any wrongdoing in the tragic death of an 18-month-old boy at a downtown Victoria hotel.
The Independent Investigations Office said its probe found no link between officers’ actions and the toddler’s July 18 death at Hotel Zed on Douglas Street.
The BC Coroners Service had earlier found that the child was a victim of a very fast developing lung infection.
But questions lingered as to whether more could have been done to prevent his death, because police officers had responded to two disturbances involving the mother a day before.
The IIO confirmed it has released jurisdiction of the case.
No criminal charges resulted from the RCMP, BC Coroners Service or IIO investigation.
