Mounties in Burnaby have shared a suspect sketch as they continue their investigation of a series of indecent acts that occurred in Central Park earlier this month. The Burnaby RCMP has previously said it is investigating “three separate reports” about incidents that occurred on July 5, 6 and 9. In a news release Friday, the detachment shared a sketch of the man they believe was responsible for the July 9 incident. They did not say whether they believe he was also responsible for the other two incidents, which are also still under investigation. The victim in the July 9 incident reported it to police around 5 p.m. that day. They said they had seen a man masturbating behind a tree at a picnic area in the northwest of the park between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., according to Mounties. “Police have been pursuing a number of investigative avenues to collect evidence and identify the suspect and are now sharing a composite sketch and description as part of those ongoing efforts,” the RCMP release reads. Police described the suspect as a Black man in his late 20s or early 30s. He stands approximately six feet tall and has “an average build.” At the time of the incident, he was wearing a white hoodie, black pants and a black baseball cap, police said. “We are asking anyone who may recognize the sketch or have information about the suspect to contact police,” said Cpl. Laura Hirst, in the release. “The victim in this case did the right thing by contacting us. We want to encourage everyone to reach out to us to report any incidents of this nature, or any suspicious activity they may encounter.” Police asked anyone with information about the recent indecent acts to call the Burnaby RCMP Investigative Support Team at 604-646-9999 and reference file number 2026-23928.
