A campfire ban on B.C.’s South Coast will be lifted ahead of the Labour Day long weekend. The prohibition on Category 1 fires in the Coastal Fire Centre will be lifted Thursday at noon. “Although fire danger ratings have declined throughout much of the Coastal Fire Centre as a result of recent rainfall, along with shorter days, longer nights and cooler temperatures, the public is encouraged to continue exercising caution with the use of any open fire,” a bulletin from the B.C. Wildfire Service said. Municipalities, the bulletin noted, have the jurisdiction to introduce bans or restrictions. “Please check with your local government before engaging in any activity that that could spark a wildfire,” the BCWS said. Campfire bans have also been rescinded in the Cariboo and Kamloops fire centres.
