Brennan Day has become the fourth legislator to quit British Columbia’s Conservative party in three days, and the fifth this month. Day, who represents Courtenay-Comox, says in a statement that he’s lost confidence in the judgment, conduct and ethics of B.C. Conservative Leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay. Day joins Teresa Wat, who left the Conservative caucus earlier Wednesday, along with Rosalyn Bird who quit Tuesday and Ian Paton who defected on Monday. Former Conservative leadership candidate and finance critic Peter Milobar left earlier this month. Day says he will continue to fight for issues including responsible government, fiscal discipline and individual freedom. He says public office demands integrity and he cannot ask others to meet that standard while “remaining silent” when he believes his “own party’s leadership has fallen short of it.” “Nor can I reconcile doing so with the commitments I made to the people who sent me to Victoria,” the statement says.
