A B.C. nurse practitioner has agreed to a four-day suspension and remedial education to address a variety of misconduct, including providing care by text message, sharing personal information and abandoning four clients. Jessica LePage’s misconduct occurred between June 2023 and September 2024, according to a notice of the discipline order against her that was recently published on the B.C. College of Nurses and Midwives website. “The respondent licensee admitted that she provided care by text message, shared personal information with a client, did not send all required referrals, did not document client contact and care adequately, and abandoned four clients,” the notice reads. LePage consented to the discipline order in June and it took effect July 30. The notice was published online earlier this month. In addition to suspending her licence for four days, the order requires LePage to complete courses in professional boundaries, documentation and ethics. She has also been reprimanded by the college. The BCCNM’s investigation committee determined that the allegations against LePage were substantiated, and that her conduct did not conform to various college standards, including those regarding boundaries, documentation, medication, client-focused provision of service, knowledge-based practice, duty to provide care and ethical practice. “The investigation committee accepted that the patients were harmed by the respondent licensee’s conduct and was of the view that the respondent licensee’s conduct was reckless in respect of harm and the risk of harm to her patients,” the notice reads. LePage has no previous disciplinary history and did not gain any benefits or advantages from her misconduct, according to the notice. The BCCNM’s online directory lists LePage as a practising nurse practitioner who is licensed through March 31, 2027. Her primary employer is listed as UBC Hospital.
