A 27-year-old man has died after a rescue effort at Goldstream Falls Monday evening involving bystanders and first responders. West Shore RCMP were called to Goldstream Provincial Park shortly after 7:30 p.m. after receiving a report of a swimmer in distress. The man had been swimming near the waterfall when he went beneath the water and did not resurface. Bystanders pulled him from the water and immediately began life-saving measures, continuing their efforts until police, BC Emergency Health Services and Langford Fire Department crews arrived. He was taken to hospital for further treatment but later died. “West Shore RCMP extends its condolences to the man’s family and friends,” police said in a statement. Police also thanked the bystanders who acted quickly and provided life-saving measures in an effort to save him. The incident is a tragic reminder of how quickly conditions around moving water can change, particularly near waterfalls.
