More than a dozen B.C. communities set or tied records for their hottest Aug. 21 ever Friday, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada. The hottest new record was in the Trail area, where the mercury rose to 38.5 C, almost two full degrees hotter than the previous record of 36.8 C, which was set just four years ago in 2022. Trail’s record also tied with Cache Creek for the newest record surpassed Friday. The oldest record broken was in the Tatlayoko Lake area in the western part of the Chilcotin region. The new record of 32.4 C topped the previous mark of 31.7 C, which was set 87 years ago in 1939. Kelowna was the most populous community in the province to set a new record Friday. Its high of 34.5 C beat the previous record of 33.6 C from 1991. The full list of daily maximum temperature records set or tied in B.C.
