There was a pileup on the Alex Fraser Bridge overnight, leaving two people injured and closing the southbound lanes for hours early Friday. The Delta Police Department said officers responded to the crash around midnight and determined nine vehicles were involved in the crash. “Police are still working to determine the cause of the collision but witnesses stated that there was an initial collision between two vehicles followed by a chain reaction of other vehicles that were not able to stop in time before colliding themselves,” the department said in a news release. “Impaired driving has been ruled out, but speed may be a contributing factor.” The two people injured were hospitalized with injuries authorities described as serious but not life-threatening. Police said the southbound lanes were closed so crews could remove debris and damaged vehicles from the bridge, but reopened shortly before 4 a.m. Police asked anyone with information on the crash—or dash-cam video captured in the area of the bridge around midnight—to contact them at 604-946-4411.
