Two people have died following a collision in Cherry Valley, P.E.I., on Thursday. Emergency services responded to a two-vehicle collision involving an SUV and a pickup truck on Route 1 around 9:30 p.m. “Preliminary investigation indicates the SUV crossed the centre line and collided head-on with a pickup truck travelling in the opposite direction. Following the collision, the pickup truck rolled over and caught fire,” reads a news release from P.E.I. RCMP. Police say the driver of the pickup truck, a man, and the driver of the SUV, a woman, were pronounced dead at the scene. There were no passengers in either car. The investigation is ongoing, but the force says heavy rainfall is believed to have contributed to the collision. For more P.E.I. news, visit our dedicated provincial page.
