A Saskatoon dairy company has been fined $100,000 after a worker was seriously injured while working as a wash bay attendant. Agrifoods International Cooperative Ltd. pleaded guilty Sept. 29 for failing to ensure that only trained operators are required or permitted to operate powered mobile equipment. Two additional charges were withdrawn. The violations are in relation to an incident Nov. 20, 2023 in Saskatoon, when a worker was seriously injured after being pinched between a semi tractor and milk tanker trailer. Agrifoods International Cooperative Ltd. has been fined $71,428.57, along with a victim fine surcharge of $28,571.43, for a total of $100,000. The Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety uses education, intervention and enforcement to try to eliminate workplace injuries and illnesses.
