Police in Abbotsford have arrested 16 people in a shoplifting blitz they are calling “Project Pumpkin Spice LAW-tte.” According to a news release from the Abbotsford Police Department, 20 retail outlets across the city participated in the operation that took place on Sept. 11. More than $1,600 worth of goods were recovered, and officers also conducted warrant and compliance checks on a number of individuals. Police say a vehicle was also seized as offence-related property. “Shoplifting impacts the entire community by driving up costs for consumers, placing financial strain on businesses, and, in some cases, contributing to store closures,” Sgt. Paul Walker said in the news release. The 16 people were arrested for a number of offences, including theft-related charges and outstanding warrants. Walker says many of those arrested are known to police.
