Toronto police say a man from India who allegedly posed as a psychic and preyed on a victim’s belief in the supernatural made off with $800,000 before fleeing the country. Investigators announced Friday that a Canada-wide arrest warrant has been issued for Gangadhar Babu in connection with the scheme which they say played out between April 2024 and September 2025. During that time, the suspect allegedly “adopted the persona” of a psychic, fortune teller, and spiritual healer known as “Babu.” Babu used “elaborate rituals and frightening claims,” police said, to convince the victim that they, and their loved ones, would die or face serious harm unless they continued giving him money for spiritual projection. He’s wanted for fraud over $5,000, possession of proceeds obtained by crime over $5,000, and laundering proceeds of crime. Police told CTV News Toronto that they believe Babu has fled back to India. The 29-year-old suspect operated a business known as “Indian Psychic and Spiritual Healer,” and police say they believe there may be additional victims. Babu is described as five-foot-six, with a slender build, dark curly hair, dark brown eyes, a trimmed beard, and a noticeable gap between his front teeth.
