High River RCMP say a 36-year-old man is charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a woman this week. Mounties say they were called to a home on 112 Street East twice on Tuesday evening for reports of a disturbance. The first call, shortly before 6 p.m., was made by the suspect, who “made allegations involving the victim,” RCMP said in a news release. Mounties say they investigated “and determined the allegations were unfounded.” The second call came from the suspect at 9:28 p.m., and police arrived on scene to find a 36-year-old woman suffering from gunshot wounds. She was taken to High River General Hospital where she later died. RCMP arrested 36-year-old Jarrett Stobbe at the scene. The victim is identified by police as Cayla Bleeker. Both are residents of High River. A preliminary record check shows the accused had an extensive history with Alberta’s courts, including a 2013 conviction for an assault charge, as well as several withdrawn charges for uttering threats to cause bodily harm and assault with a weapon. RCMP declined to do an interview with CTV News on Thursday and would not answer any questions about the nature of the allegations the accused made in the first call to police. Stobbe was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Okotoks on July 31.
