Police have deemed the death of a man who was found unresponsive on a Hamilton sidewalk earlier this week as “suspicious” after they say that “additional information” about the case surfaced. The man was found on a sidewalk near Dundas Street East and 1st Street at around 6:20 p.m. on Sept. 7 and rushed to hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced deceased. Police say that “based on the circumstances known at the time, the death was not considered suspicious.” However, police say that additional evidence has since led to a decision to classify the death as suspicious and have homicide detectives assume carriage of the investigation. The death has not been formally deemed a homicide at this point. “In the days that followed, investigators reviewed video footage, spoke with witnesses and received additional information, including findings from a post-mortem examination,” a news release issued on Friday notes. “As the investigation progressed, information emerged that raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.” Police say that investigators are looking to speak with anyone who was in the area of Dundas Street East between Spring Creek Drive and 1st Street between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 7.
