Toronto Hydro says 2,500 customers remain without power after a powerful storm left tens of thousands in the dark on Wednesday. The violent storm, which dumped more than 100 millimetres of rain on parts of Toronto and other Ontario cities, toppled trees and knocked out down power lines. At the peak of the storm, Toronto Hydro confirmed that 65,000 people were without electricity. “The customer experience is always top of mind for us as we respond to major events like this. We absolutely appreciate the hardship it imposes and we appreciate the patience of our customers and our community as we work to resolve these issues as quickly as we can,” Dan Smart, a spokesperson for Toronto Hydro, told CP24 on Friday. In an email to CP24 on Friday, a group, representing residents of a North York building that houses 600 people, said they were without power for 38 hours. Smart confirmed that power has now been restored to that building. “My understanding is our folks have been connecting with residents there and that situation is now resolved and power should be restored,” he said. He said while they have received a high volume of calls in recent days, crews will continue to work “around the clock” until service is restored to every customer. “If there is anything to report, we do encourage people to call our emergency response line,” Smart said.
