A ByWard Market café wants you to drink Canadian as the trade war continues between Canada and the United States. Le Moulin de Provence posted a video on social media, crossing out Americano on its coffee menu and renaming it ‘Canadiano.’ “A small but necessary menu update,” Le Moulin de Provence said in the post. The operations manager at Le Moulin de Provence says the café wanted to have a “little bit of fun.” “We try to keep it light and try to, try have a bit of a laugh,” Nicholas Bonnet told CTV News Ottawa. “I think this was our little version of an executive order that we want to sign here. Some random plans. We thought, you know, it would be a nice little touch.” The café is also going to introduce a new coffee called ‘Lake Ontario.’ “We’re still figuring out the last final details, but we’re going to be putting together a little Canadian inspired drink that’s emblematic of us as a country and also us as a store,” Bonnet said. “Sometime to do with the lakes or the great north. We’re still trying to figure that out.” Last week, U.S. President Donald Trump renamed the Great Lake as “Lake America,” and signed an executive order directing federal agencies to rename Lake Ontario as “Lake America” in its official databases and maps. Le Moulin de Province also sells Canada cookies. In 2025, Morning Owl renamed its popular “Americano” drink to “Canadiano” on its menu to protest Trump’s threats of annexation against Canada.
