Victoria police are urging the public to look inside parking ticket dispensers before retrieving their stub after a syringe was found inside one of the machines downtown.
VicPD says the uncapped syringe was discovered on Tuesday, but only reported to them on Thursday.
The person who discovered it told police it was placed in “such a way as to potentially cause injury.”
In a YouTube video, Const. Matthew Rutherford says the syringe was found where you normally collect the ticket.
It’s unclear which parking ticket dispenser it was found at, with Rutherford only saying it was in the downtown area.
“We’re encouraging everyone on the weekend and in the future to check where you would receive your ticket to make sure there is no syringe there,” he said in the video.
The City of Victoria tells CTV News parking ambassadors were out checking the pay station slots on Thursday.
The incident is under investigation.
In June, a hypodermic needle was found taped to the underside of a railing in a Victoria parkade.
Officials say there are no indications that the two incidents are connected.
There are no indications that this syringe incident is connected to one earlier in the year in which an uncapped syringe was located taped to the underside of a railing in a downtown parkade stairwell. #F1751632
