The Sooke school district is warning that money may be siphoned from classrooms and beyond to fund the region's unprecedented demand for bus seats.
The district said it's received more than 4,100 bus registrations this year – nearly 1,000 more than it expected.
Part of the reason is because SD62 no longer charges bus fees so more families than ever are signing up, even if it's just for a backup plan/
In a letter sent to parents, the district's secretary-treasurer warns that if new routes and extra buses are required as a result, money may have to be taken from extracurricular activities and classroom supplies.
SD62 is also asking parents who have other transportation options to voluntarily withdraw their registration, saying so far about 80 families have done that.
